Welcome to Mountain Brook
Mountain Brook Children’s Center is now Pine Brook Children’s Center. Please visit us at our new site:
Mountain Brook Children’s Center is located at the foot of Mt. Sugarloaf in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. It is situated on six acres of land that include woods and meadows bordered by Sugarloaf Brook. In this beautiful setting, the children are able to explore, experience and learn about the natural world. The building was designed specifically for children and is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The large windows and deck are special features. Wooded play areas and adjacent garden space are used as extensions of the classroom.
Mountain Brook was founded with two main goals – to provide a high quality, full-day, year-round preschool to kindergarten, and to introduce children to nature and science through play, exploration and experimentation. We are strongly committed to enhancing children’s sense of wonder, teaching them to become keen observers and enticing them to think and solve problems. In addition to the nature and science program, we also offer a wide variety of traditional activities such as art, music, dramatic play, block building and literacy development.
The program is based on the belief that young children thrive in an environment that is supportive, caring, and stimulating. Establishing strong teacher-child relationships and fostering positive social interaction between children are of utmost importance. Teaching social skills and encouraging compassion for one another and for the world around us are fundamental elements of the program. The daily activities are designed to enhance all areas of growth – social, emotional, physical, intellectual. The curricula emerge week to week from the children’s own lives questions and experiences, and from their everyday interaction with the world around them. The program is based on child development principles and the conviction that children learn through play and participation.
